Javier Mascherano

“We are taking steps forwards. I believe that the team is improving. What’s coming next will be more difficult.”

“They didn’t present a danger for us. The question is what would have happened had we gone to penalties. But from the second half until the end, except in the last few minutes of the mach, we completely dominated.”

“Nothing is easy, we have the experience of other teams; yesterday, Germany; the day before yesterday, Holland.. Everything is very difficult. We had little dominance in the first half, but in the second, we clearly deserved the victory. We played, we looked for it and it didn’t happen. But in the last kick of the match Leo (Messi) and Angel (Di Maria) appeared and it happened.”

Pablo Zabaleta

“They are moments with plenty of emotions and joy.”
“The attacking quality of this team is always worthy.”
“I believe that we controlled the ball well, they closed up well at the back. It was difficult for us to score. Many times, the rival takes advantage of the fatigue and they did that in the first 15 minutes of extra time.”

Fernando Gago

“We had many goals opportunities in the second half, however, the goal came in the second half of extra time.”

“We never lost the ball and we knew that we had to be patient. We looked for it several times and we knew that the opponents were playing for the counterattack and that they were fast.”

“We are very happy for having won because it’s what we wanted. We know we have few days to recover but we know the way this works.”
“Now, we are going to rest in these two days to then think about the next match.”

“Switzerland played a match based on protecting their spaces and going for the counterattack.”

“It’s celebrated because we made it to the Quarter Finals, and that is something to celebrate. However, we have to go match by match.”

“I believe that the World Cup is very even and we can’t think that you get a victory because of the name, the matches have to be prepared.”

“We had goal opportunities during the match and their goalkeeper saved many important shots.”

“It was logical that after we made the goal, they were going to look for the draw, but luck was on our side.”

Lionel Messi

“I imagine that the feelings were the same for everyone, at the beginning because we couldn’t score and because any mistake could leave us out. We didn’t want to go to penalties.”

“In the play that led to the goal, I thought of going for it, but then I saw Angel (Di Maria) and I decided to pass it to him.”

“We know that we can go through situations like this one, but this is football and we had luck on our side.”

“We know that all matches will be very even and that they are going to be won by details. Important Squads have been eliminated.”

“Chiquito (Romero) had an important match, because he was there when he was needed and we have to thank him for that.”

“I think that in the second half, Argentina created opportunities but was unable to score. We were very tired in extra time.”

“The pitch didn’t help, the grass was dry and hard but that is no excuse.”

“We have been working with the idea of the defensive line accompanying the midfielders when attacking, not to leave spaces between the lines.”

“It was played like that because we wanted to win and we didn’t want to go to penalties.”

“I grabbed my leg because of tiredness and heat, but nothing serious.”

Sergio Romero:

“The truth is that it was a hard match as every match that has been played and those to come.”

“It went in, which is what matters, in a tight and hard match as this one was.”

“We didn’t have clear cut chances in the first half but this is football and nobody gives anything for free.”

“The chance that hit the post was to fall on your knees and thank.”

“We sang, jumped and yelled in the changing rooms, now we have to keep a cool head for the match to come.”

Marcos Rojo

“The truth is that I’m very happy of living this moment in the Squad.”

“The injury was only out of the tiredness and nervousness from the match.”

“We hope to make it to the Semi-finals, we work for that but it’s 23 of us and anyone can go in. Know, it’s my time to cheer for the team from the outside.”

“We knew that they were tidy and that they played with the ball at their feet. On the second half, we made it to the area but the ball wasn’t going in.”

“Alejandro (Sabella) told us in the first half break not to go crazy, that the goal was going to come and that is what we did.”
