Desailly tips Argentina to win World Cup & Brazil may

According to former France international Marcel Desailly, Argentina are favourites to win the World Cup in Brazil and the host Brazil could buckle under the load of  expectation and pressure

Marcel Desailly the 1998 World Cup winner, who twice won the Champions League with Marseille and AC Milan, also predicted Argentina’s Sergio Aguero could be the top scorer and Ivory Coast the surprise team

Desailly is confident that Argentina can win the world cup even if Barcelona’s talisman Lionel Messi does not play in every match.

“I am sure collectively Argentina will be able, with Messi at top or without Messi at his best, to win the World Cup,” Frenchman told Laureus.com in an interview

“Honestly I see Argentina playing without Messi,” continued his speach he said. “Messi is not specially the key player of Argentina, you will see.”

Desailly also mentioned host Brazil could knuckle under the load of expectation

“The first game will be very important but confusion will be there in teams. I’m sure it will be difficult for some teams to come out, escpecially Brazil will face a lot of problems for this World Cup”

The 45 year old former Chelsea centre back has no hope on 1966 world champion England

“England do not have individual players who can make the difference,”

“Obviously, people will talk about (Wayne) Rooney but in the previous World Cup he did not perform” he added

“We’re [France] not expecting to win World Cup. France doesn’t perform unless they are scared of getting eliminated. We are just there, hanging, hoping that game after game we can build up collective motivation”
